Revolutions and Two-Face

“You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

“Entweder man stirbt als Held oder man lebt solange, bis man selbst der Schurke ist.“

Harvey Dent, The Dark Knight

– Harvey Dent, The Dark Knight

I particularly like this quote because it is absolutely true. If you look at history, that’s exactly the course of all (or at least many) liberal revolutions.

See the French Revolution and Robespierre. Or feminism, which today often lays emphasise not so much on equal rights, but much more on equality of outcome, i.e. privileging (in Brandenburg, for example, a so-called “parity law” was recently passed, which stipulates that the electoral lists must have the same number of women and men).

It seems like it’s the nature of revolutions, not knowing when to stop and becoming a two-faced monster – much like Harvey Dent.
